The Godfather 2

So listen up, it's a bit of an old game now but having only just picked it up I thought it'd be fun to give it a review.

*KiK puts away his Anti-EA brain*
*KiK puts on his totally un-biased brain*  ... sorta

Can EA learn from their mistakes?

Picture
In a word ... no.
In more words ... not really.

If you were hoping for a ground-breaking new experience put this game down now.  EA has decided once again that there is no need to change anything major with another one of their franchises and as such have rolled out the same game again but with slightly -very slightly - better graphics.

So it's not a good game then?

Picture
Well, it's just as fun as it's previous incarnation, but with the added "Don's View" feature which to be honest, was over-hyped from the start.  It is ... a map ... with some menus ... and that's about it really.  It certainly didn't make me feel that I had any more power in the game, chiefly because it was still faster/easier/more fun, to go and take over businesses and rackets myself.  But of course, you had your "family" to help you ...

You can rely on your family...

Picture

So now you can have up to three "family" members help you out on missions and you would be right to assume that they come in useful ... at times.  Unfortunately, the AI is quite frankly dumber than an Big Brother inmate - usually disappointing, annoying and failing to succeed at the most basic of tasks.

One example of this was when I was attacking an enemy compound, I managed to get to the back of the building and then needed the door kicked down (why I couldn't do this myself is a mystery between the developers and their weird minds) so I ordered my henchman to handle this "difficult" task.  I turned around just in time to see him run off in the opposite direction, which was odd to say the least, but giving him the benefit of the doubt I waited to see what would happen.  Then an amazing thing happened, he kicked down the door ... from the other side, and ... got gunned down by the ten or so enemies standing behind him inside the building.  Well, if they hadn't done it, I probably would have...

And now the big question ... Did the PC version work properly?

Picture
No.

Apart from dodgy controller configuring, surround sound oddities and terrible FPS even on a high-end machine, then yes it was definitely running, just not very well.

The technical problems really didn't help in making this a game that you could recommend to others.

A much improved sequel or Yet Another failure from EA? - The Verdict

The Good

  1. Same old open-world fun
  2. Slightly better graphics
  3. Intimidating people is still as fun as ever

The Bad

  1. Same old open-world fun - nothing new except...
  2. Dumb AI
  3. Don's View is an useless addition

The Verdict

Try again EA, better luck next time ...
