Quantum of Solace

It's another older game I know, but it's a game I've been playing quite a lot recently - mainly for the trophies  as I have already completed the PC version.

So it's time for a 007 game, the latest 007 game.

Bond is back...

...And this time he's looking extra good using the Call of Duty 4 engine.  Developer Treyarch have the reigns this time and they have chosen to take the FPS route, just as well really after doing such a good job with their other games.

But wait, what about the stealthy parts?

Don't worry, QoS has plenty of spy-sneaking action and when it happens you get a third-person perspective so you won't miss any of the action.  This view also comes into play when you take cover - Gears of War style some might say - and allows you to target the enemies before you peek your head above ground.

No Sean Connery, Roger Moore ... Pierce Brosnan?

The games story takes you through both of the newest films "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace" starring Daniel Craig as James Bond so guess what, that's who you play as.  I'd be lying if I told you that he is my favourite "Bond" actor but that really doesn't matter as it's the game that counts and the game is actually pretty good.

Controls are smooth and responsive which makes taking out those goons with the famous Silence P99 even more fun.  There is a nice variety of different weapons to take advantage of throughout the game from Sniper Rifles to Automatics and Magnums to RPGs - all of which look brilliantly detailed.

Movie-Game Tie-in = Crap?

Though it's not a "classic", it's still a highly playable game that has been solidly constructed.  I'd recommend this game to anyone who enjoys first-person shooters and wants something a little bit different.  The graphics are good, the gameplay is fun and there's quite a bit of replayability through achievements/trophies and multiplayer.

Bonds triumphant return or a mission that should've been aborted? - The Verdict

The Good

  1. Good graphics
  2. Responsive controls
  3. Plenty of moments from the films

The Bad

  1. No bots in multiplayer
  2. Nothing new in multiplayer game-types

The Verdict

A decent 007 game ... and it's been a while since we had one
