Layton: "Nobody should be forced to drink a tea as rank as this"

Nintendo's very own English gent returns

It came as a surprise to everyone - including Nintendo - that this game became such a worldwide success.  But a success it was and continues to be with the latest installment bringing even more puzzles and more lovable animated cutscenes.

This time a mysterious box seems to have a curse upon it that means everyone that opens it ends up dead and it's up to the Professor and his apprentice Luke to follow the clues and make the tea along the way.

More Tea Vi... Professor?

If you've played the previous game in the series, you'll know that this game is all about the puzzles, from physical puzzles such as sliding blocks to complicated riddles which leave you confused for hours.  A welcome break from all the mind-confuddling challenges is the - dare I say it - mini-games which provide some light-hearted fun.

In this game you will find yourself exersizing an overly fat hamster, building a camera and brewing tea ... yes, brewing tea.  Whilst the hamster provides some cheap laughs - "I'n not so good at ... moving n stuff" - the tea brewing part where combining items picked up on your quest and attempting to make a palletable brew, made me chuckle on several occasions.

"It's time, to test, my theory ..."

Technically it's same game as before and whereas in previous reviews *see Godfather 2* I have critisised developers for taking the "easy option", in this game I cannot say I would change anything.  Exploring new places, solving new puzzles and enjoying the cutscenes - of which there are more of in this game than in the prequel - is the heart of what makes this a must-have game for the Nintendo DS.

If anything, the puzzles are slightly easier in my opinion, but maybe I'm just getting better at this series' of games.  The only critisism I can think of is that it needs more music, sometimes after hearing the same tune repeat for the 200th time whilst you try to concentrate on a puzzle does force you to reach for the volume switch on more than one occasion.
